Amit Mishra on Thursday, September 04, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, after making his international debut way back in April 2003 during a tri-series in Bangladesh. However, despite showing a lot of promise and good domestic numbers to back it up, the leg spinner did not get consistent games. The veteran also always picked up a wicket in each of the games he featured for India. However, Mishra had to wait for five years to make a comeback to the squad, as he featured at the end of a home Test series against Australia in 2008.
The leg spinner stated that he was depressed and angry after having had to wait for five long years to get a chance again. However, the cricketer said that he had no regrets as he always gave his 100% every time he stepped out on the field.

"I have no regrets. I gave my 100 per cent whenever I got a chance. And I always proved what I was told. I focused on performing. Although I was depressed for 1-1.5 years. I was angry. I was performing.
"At that time, it was a little limited. But I was a little worried. But after 1-2 years, I talked to myself. I said, I want to play cricket. I am playing cricket. And I am performing," Amit Mishra said while speaking to ANI.

Mishra also went onto explain how he always tried to find new ways to improve after he was on the bench for five years. He stated he shifted focus to honing his craft as a leg spinner.
"I was a little worried. But after 1-2 years, I talked to myself. I said, I want to play cricket. I am playing cricket. And I am performing. So, how can I enhance this? What else can I add to my cricket? How can I improve my small performance? So, I started to pay attention to those things. I started talking to myself. I asked myself what improvements I have made. So, a person who loves cricket should never be depressed," said Mishra (via the aforementioned source).
